02Why it matters
Why verify Google Sheets emails
A shared sheet is where lists go to get messy. Form responses land in it, colleagues paste in contacts from events, and someone always leaves a trailing space or a missing letter in the domain. By the time the sheet is imported into an email tool, nobody knows which rows are good.
Checking in the sheet itself keeps the answer next to the data. Each row can carry a verdict, a score and a reason, so the person preparing the import can sort, filter and decide, rather than finding out from a bounce report after the send.

What to do with the verdict
The check on its own changes nothing. These are the steps that make it pay off inside Google Sheets.
Write the verdict into the same row
Add Verdict, Score and Reason columns, then follow the check with an update spreadsheet row step that fills them in. Conditional formatting on the verdict column makes bad rows obvious at a glance.
Verify a column in one bulk job
When a step hands you many rows at once, map the email column into Verify Email List. Short lists come back within the same Zap run; longer ones are collected later with Find Bulk Verification Results.
Keep a clean tab for imports
Filter on Safe to send and copy only those rows to a second tab. That tab is the one your email tool imports from, so a bad address never reaches it.

Set it up in four steps

Get your API key
Create a key on the API keys page of your BounceIntel dashboard. Keys come with any paid plan and start with bi_live_.

Start the Zap in Google Sheets
In Zapier, choose Google Sheets as the trigger app and pick New Spreadsheet Row, or open a template above, which does this for you.

Add Verify Email Address
Add BounceIntel as the action, connect it with your key, and map the email field from Google Sheets into the Email field.

Add a Filter on Safe to send, Paths on the verdict, or an update step that writes the verdict and score back to Google Sheets.

What each check returns
The fields to map first. Every check also returns reason codes, a confidence level, the mail provider and the individual mailbox signals.
- Verdict
is_reachable - Safe, risky, invalid or unknown. The field to filter or branch on.
- Score
score - 0 to 100. Worth writing back so lists and reports can sort by it.
- Safe to send
safe_to_send - One true or false value, ready for a Filter step.
- Reason
sub_reason - Why the verdict was chosen, in plain words.
- Disposable address
is_disposable - A throwaway inbox from a temporary mail service.
- Role account
is_role_account - A shared inbox such as info@ or sales@ rather than a person.
- Catch-all domain
smtp_is_catch_all - The server accepts every address, so the mailbox cannot be confirmed.
- Did you mean
domain_suggestion - A corrected domain when the address looks like a typo, such as gmial.com.

Google Sheets and BounceIntel: common questions
Will editing a row verify it again?
With a new or updated row trigger, yes, which is useful when someone corrects an address. If you only want each row checked once, use the new row trigger, or filter on the Verdict column being empty.
How big a sheet can I verify?
A Zap works best on rows as they arrive. For a sheet with thousands of existing rows, download it as CSV and upload it as a bulk job in the dashboard, which also returns a file with every verdict.
How many BounceIntel credits does this use?
One credit for each address checked. A Zap that runs 300 times a month uses 300 credits, and Zapier counts its own tasks separately.
Do I need a paid BounceIntel plan?
The Zap connects with an API key, and keys come with any paid plan, monthly or a one-off pack. The 100 free credits on signup can be used in the dashboard to test verdicts on your own addresses first.
