SendGrid validation alternative

A SendGrid email validation alternative that does not depend on your sending plan.

SendGrid offers validation alongside sending, and access to it tends to follow the sending tier rather than your verification need.

Short answer

BounceIntel is the alternative when you want email validation that is not a feature of a sending plan: an API key with any paid plan, a bulk workflow that takes files, and results you can read.

Twilio SendGrid is a sending platform with validation attached. As with every ESP add-on, the validation is scoped to their world: their plans, their objects, their reasons for offering it.

That works while sending and verifying are the same project. It stops working when verification becomes its own requirement, or when the plan that includes validation is larger than the plan your sending volume needs.

01

What SendGrid validation is good at

Convenience for teams already on the platform. One vendor, one bill, one integration, and a check that happens naturally at the point of sending.

For a product that already calls SendGrid for transactional mail, adding a validation call is a small change and a sensible one.

02

Where it gets awkward

Two things come up repeatedly. The first is tier coupling: needing a larger sending plan than your volume justifies, because that is where the validation sits.

The second is portability. Verification thresholds, rules and history built on an ESP's output do not travel when you change ESP, and changing ESP is something most products do at least once.

03

Where BounceIntel works differently

Verification is the product, so it is not priced against sending volume and does not move when your sending does. API keys come with any paid plan, monthly or pay as you go.

Every result carries a verdict, a score from 0 to 100, documented reason codes and a recommended action, and bulk works on CSV files rather than on platform contact lists.

04

A sensible split

Send with SendGrid, verify here. Call the API at registration to protect the database, and clean lists in bulk before a campaign regardless of who sends it.

If you already validate through SendGrid, sample a thousand addresses through both on the same day and compare what each says about the rows it could not settle.

02FAQ

What people ask before they switch

Does this replace SendGrid?

No. We do not send mail. This replaces the validation part, and most teams comparing these two keep sending exactly where it is.

Do I need a large plan for the API?

No. Any paid plan includes API keys, monthly or pay as you go, and the smallest pay as you go pack is listed on the pricing page.

Can I check addresses before importing them into SendGrid?

Yes, and it is the cheaper order. Clean the file first, import what is deliverable, and keep the risky rows in a separate segment for a smaller send.

What about verifying at signup?

One API call at registration, with the key on your server. Treat an unknown verdict as a flag rather than a rejection so a slow mail server does not cost you a real customer.

What happens to unknown results?

They are returned as unknown with a reason, never rounded up to valid. Treat an unknown as a flag rather than a bounce, especially at signup, so a slow mail server does not cost you a real customer.

Can I try this without a SendGrid account?

Yes. Signup credits, no card, and no sending account required. A free BounceIntel account verifies in the dashboard.
